A Gathering of Stitches is a Maker Space for the Fiber & Textile inclined. We offer retreats from 2-5 days in length, both in our 4500sf studio in Portland, ME, and at other beautiful, rustic locations in Maine. We have a fully equipped studio for those who sew garments and quilts, with sewing machines, sergers, cutting tables, design walls, and all the accompaning tools. For Dyers, we have a fully stocked dye kitchen with heating elements, sinks, pots and pans, laundry facilities, and most any other tool you could need. For Screen Printers we have a darkroom, an exposure unit, a wash down unit, printing stations, drying racks and a 5' x 12' table equipped for printing yardage. We also have knitting machines, a walking foot industrial sewing machine, a die cutter, a library of pertinent material, and a ton of space. There are studios available within the space, both long-term (a year-long lease is required) and short-term (desks, with full studio access, are available for a week, month or three months at a time). We seek to support the entire spectrum of makers from the curious to the advanced hobbyist to the nacent business to the venture that has outgrown your spare bedroom.
