This was by far my favourite pattern from the Simple Modern Sewing Japanese pattern book, and I've made two of these now! I love the gathered skirt so much, and it's so cozy while being beautiful, casual, and interesting. All the best qualities for a handmade garment. Can be worn open as a jacket, or tied, and is great with all kinds of layers.

Having made a couple other patterns from this book, I've discovered the typical modifications I like to make - I did away with the facings and finished it with bias trim, added pockets, and made some fancy lined cuffs. I find the shoulder caps a little snug when I do something like reaching overhead, but it's not too bad.

Modifications

Replaced facings with bias tape, added side seam pockets, added fancy cuff linings.
