No details for now. Top secret! (We'll see if I actually finish it for Christmas...)
UPDATE: I did it! Finished with a day to spare!
I made a new version of my Cal Patch self-drafted dress from last January's sew-along, with some festive stretch velvet! I made the pattern almost exactly the same as my grey cowl dress version, but without the cowl, and also I omitted the pockets just because I wasn't sure how they'd work out with this fabric.
The stretch velvet was a little challenging to work with, but not too bad. The only part that I had trouble with and didn't turn out great is the neck band (it has a really noticeable lump in the front that I might try to fix later), I would probably do a lined bodice instead in the future. The hems weren't bad though - serged, turned under, and finished with a straight stretch stitch.
I serged all edges, used a straight stretch stitch for almost everything (skipped my usual twin needle finishing), and used the walking foot on my machine, which really helped avoid making the fabric slip against itself while sewing. The velvet does try to slip around a fair bit, so I used A LOT of pins, and would recommend over-pinning to anyone working with it for the first time. Finally, I used clear elastic where I attached the skirt to the bodice, to reinforce the waist since the fabric is pretty heavy, and it needs to stretch a fair bit to get it on.
