The lovely Apricot Pinafore Dress and Top is a comfy, loose and feminine design featuring a sleeveless bodice, finished with bias tape on the armholes and a facing along the neckline, which can be round or square. There are two casings stitched on the right side of the bodice to create a more fitted look if desired. You can opt for some lovely side ties or elastic. The top version comes with a slightly gathered peplum and the dress features a skirt below the knee with inseam or patch pockets to choose from. Last, there is an optional side seam zip to help you with putting the garment on and off easily. Apricot can be made in a wide variety of fabrics so you can wear it from Spring to Winter.

The inspiration for this design comes from the uniforms nurses wore during the II World War.

With lots of detailed instructions, technical drawings and tips to get the best results, the Apricot Pinafore Dress and Top will become a staple, with a twist, in your handmade wardrobe. You can wear it with a shirt or a turtleneck underneath during the colder months and with a t-shirt or a top during the Summer.

For Autumn and Winter: medium weight fabrics like corduroy, needle cord, denim, quilting cotton, twill…
For Spring and Summer: linen, light denim, chambray, cotton, cotton lawn, double gauze…

FABRIC REQUIRED SIZE RANGE UK 6 / US 2 to UK 24 / US 20 (cup B)

Version A Pinafore Dress – 150cm / 60’’ fabric width: 3.15m / 3.45 yards. If cutting bodices folding each side of fabric, subtract 45cm / 18’’ from total fabric.
*Skirt doesn’t fit comfortably on most sizes on fabrics with a width of 115cm / 45’’.
Version B Top – 150cm / 60’’ fabric width: 2.20m / 2.4 yards. If cutting both bodices folding each side of fabric, subtract 45cm / 18’’ from total fabric needed.
Version B Top – 115cm / 45’’ fabric width: 2.50m / 2.73 yards.

FABRIC REQUIRED SIZE RANGE UK 18 / US 14 to  UK 36 / US 32 (cup D)

Version A Pinafore Dress – 150cm / 60’’ fabric width: 3.15m / 3.82 yards. If cutting bodices folding each side of fabric, subtract 45cm / 18’’ from total fabric.
*Skirt doesn’t fit comfortably on most sizes on fabrics with a width of 115cm / 45’’.
Version B Top – 150cm / 60’’ fabric width: 2.4m / 2.6 yards. If cutting bodices folding each side of fabric, subtract 45cm / 18’’ from total fabric needed.
Version B Top – 115cm / 45’’ fabric width: 2.6m / 2.8 yards.

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES

• Sewing machine & overlocker/serger (optional to finish raw edges)
• Matching thread
• Interfacing: 50cm
• Bias binding tape for armholes: 2m/2.19 yards. Approx. width 2.5cm/1’’.
• Optional 18cm/7’’ (cup B size range) / 23cm/9” invisible zip (cup D size range)
• Optional elastic instead of ties: approx. length 1.40m/1.5 yards (cup B size range) / 1.60cm/1.74” (cup D size range) to adjust when trying on the finished bodice.
• The usual sewing tools: chalk or fabric pen, scissors, pins, needle, tape measure…

DIFFICULTY

The pinafore dress pattern and top Apricot is perfect for advanced beginners willing to learn some new techniques like applying bias tape to an armhole, adding a concealed zip or creating gathers. If you are an intermediate or advanced sewist, you will enjoy this project as well and we are sure you will find ways to make it your own.

SIZES

We have updated our sizes and now we offer two ranges: from UK 6 / US 2 to UK 24 / US 20 (cup B) and from UK 18/ US 14 to UK 36 / US 32 (cup D). Choose on the dropdown menu the one that would work best for you. *The pinafore dress pattern and top Apricot is sold in a PDF format, so you will receive an email with a link to download the pattern and instructions. Then, you will find two printing options available: A4 and a copy shop version of the sewing pattern so that you can skip the assembling part. In addition, if you prefer US letter, there’s an option already included on the files. Regarding the print-at-home option, the size range UK 6 / US 2 to UK 24 / US 20 prints in 26 or 28 pages, depending if printing in A4 or US Letter. The size range UK 18 / US 14 to UK 36 / US 32 prints in 32 pages for both A4 and US Letter.
