"The worker must have bread, but she must have roses too." - Rose Schneiderman, (April 6, 1882 – August 11, 1972) American socialist, feminist, and prominent women's labor union leader.
This is a downloadable PDF embroidery pattern for the March 2017 Bread and Roses design of the Give A Stitch embroidery project. Each month between December 2016 and December 2017 I will be releasing an embroidery pattern with all profits of the sale going towards a progressive cause.
This month all proceeds from the sale of this embroidery pattern will be donated to the National Organization for Woman, also known as NOW. NOW was founded in 1966 to take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life. Their official priorities are winning economic equality and securing it with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that will guarantee equal rights for women; championing abortion rights and reproductive justice along with other women’s health issues; opposing racism; fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in all areas, including employment, housing, health services, and child custody; and ending violence against all women, no matter race, age, or socio-economic class. You can find out more about them on their website at now.org.
The downloadable PDF is 14 pages long and includes a materials list, directions for transferring the pattern to your fabric, how to do two basic embroidery stitches to complete the pattern, tips on finishing your embroidery piece for display, and two versions of the embroidery design itself facing two different directions.
The digital PDF will be available to download on the purchases page of your Etsy account shortly after you complete your purchase. You will not be receiving a physical product and will need access to a printer in order to print out the pattern and transfer it to your fabric. A PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat is required to open the pattern.
This pattern is sized for a minimum 6" hoop and is perfect for beginner embroiderers, but an experienced stitcher could have a lot of fun going wild with it too!
This pattern is for non-commercial use only, but you may sell items made using it if the money is going to the same cause, or if you would like to host an embroidery circle to raise funds. Please contact me if this is the case so I can potentially help spread word about it.
Once you have completed your embroidery piece I would love to see it! You can find me on instagram at @GiveAStitchProject, and can tag me in your finished piece if you would like, and can use the hashtag #GiveAStitch when posting photos of your embroidery. If you're not a huge fan of social media then feel free to share photos of your finished project here on Etsy with me!
Be sure to check back each month for a new embroidery pattern to benefit a different progressive cause!
