From Forest & Thread:

MVP of your wardrobe, the button-down shirt has a reputation to uphold and this advanced level pattern is sure not to disappoint.

Though classic at heart, this button-down shirt has loads of design details guaranteed to impress, from the unexpected front yoke to the wide facing at the curved hem.

You will learn:

  • French Seams
  • Flat Felled Seams
  • Understitch
  • Edgestitch
  • Constructing a Collar with Stand
  • Constructing a Hidden Button Placket
  • Constructing a Tower Placket with Cuff
  • Burrito Method for Back Yoke
  • Inserting a Sleeve in the Round
  • Sewing a Curved Hem Facing

Fit Recommendations: The MVP BD Shirt is cut straight along the sides and is meant to have a relaxed, easy fit through the body and sleeves. The bust and hip measures the same on the finished garment. Choose your size based off of your largest measurement for a very easeful shirt. Refer to the finished garment measurements for the across shoulder measurement. For a perfect fitting MVP BD Shirt, make sure the across shoulder measurement is approximately the same as your personal across shoulder measurement. The sleeves run long with the intention of cuffing them. Shorten or lengthen to your desired length using the designated shorten/lengthen line on the paper pattern. For the D-Cup size range, you may wish to adjust the dart placement according to your personal fit needs. The dart may need to be raised or lowered depending on your height and apex location.

Recommended Fabrics: The MVP BD Shirt works best in light to mid-weight woven materials. Think crisp cotton shirting or airy high-quality linen. A silky fabric would also yield a beautiful MVP BD Shirt, but may result in a more challenging sewing experience. Lightweight flannel or wool would work well for this design, but be careful not to go too heavy as the pattern includes an invisible placket and certain seam finishes which may get too bulky with more weight. It is recommended to stay under 6oz or 200gsm for the best results.
