Introducing this month’s Patreon project, the Going Places Skirt: a a double box pleated skirt ideal for conversational border prints fabrics.
I developed a love for double box pleats when I was looking for an alternative to circle skirts to add variety to my sewing. Box pleats enable fullness without the bulk of gathers: as the fabric is folded rather than scrunched, it gives a smoother line from the waistline, which I like. With single pleats the hem sweep is limited to 3x waist size, so I doubled up for more exuberant fullness, perfect for twirling!
When I first wanted to make a double box pleat skirt I searched high and low for a pattern but couldn't find one anywhere, so I learned box pleat math and drafted my own - and now you get to reap the benefits of what I learned!
The pattern includes a waistband, or add your favourite bodice pattern to make a dress. Closes with a centre back zipper, and features in-seam side pockets, because pockets!
My first multi-size pattern, the Going Places Skirt is available in sizes from 26" to 40" waist (smaller or larger sizes can be added on request). Get the pattern and instructions on my Patreon page (Appliqué Aficionado tier and above).
